ABOUT THE LIBRARY

The Library was dedicated on June 17, 1896. Built in honor of James Blackstone, a longtime Branford resident, the library’s construction was funded by James’ son, Timothy Beach Blackstone. In addition to the $300,000 cost of the building, Timothy gave an endowment of $300,000 and a collection of 5,000 books.

Today, the library offers programs and materials for babies, children, teens, adults, and seniors. There are physical items available for borrowing as well as digital materials for download/streaming.

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is made up of members in grades 7 and up. In addition to maintaining this blog, TAB members help design teen library programs, advise on materials purchased, and work on projects that benefit the library and the community.
